IRISH DEXTER CATTLE Irish Dexters are the smallest cattle breed in North
America. They are gentle natured and easy
to be around, but very hearty. Cows are 36 to 42 inches
and bulls are 38 to 44 inches at the shoulder. They can be horned or polled(no horns). We choose
to raise polled animals. Dexters are considered triple purpose; raised for milk, beef and oxen. A
cow can produce more milk for its weight than any other breed. Producing 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 gallons
per day with a butterfat content of 4 to 5 percent. Beef animals can be organically raised and
mature at 18 months. Although we are raising ours as breeding stock, they are gaining in popularity
for small acreage ranches like ours.
